Well in the Desert

Our Story

Since 1996, we have been lovingly and efficiently nourishing those too poor to support the cost of food while managing other essentials like rent, utilities, and clothing.

How It All Began

Well in the Desert was founded in 1996 with a humanitarian mission: to help feed, clothe, and serve people in need. What started as a simple desire to help has grown into a vital community resource that now serves over 6,000 meals monthly to hungry neighbors throughout the Coachella Valley.

Our organization was created because we believe that if you can't eat, you can't do anything. Food security is the foundation that allows people to focus on other essential needs like housing, employment, and healthcare.

Who We Serve

Our doors are open to anyone in need of a good meal. Every day, we welcome:

  • Your unemployed neighbors
  • Poor families and individuals
  • People who have lost their home or live in marginal situations
  • The lonely elderly
  • The homebound
  • Anyone in need of a good meal

We operate six days a week, providing daily hot meals Monday through Friday and food distribution on Saturdays. Our Saturday food distribution program serves 150-200+ people each week, helping feed over 2,000 people monthly and often helping individuals avoid having to choose between paying for food or rent.

Our Philosophy

At Well in the Desert, we believe in more than just providing meals. We offer:

1
Dignity and Respect:

Every person who comes to us is treated with compassion and understanding.

2
Comprehensive Support:

Beyond meals, we provide referral services, phone and mail service, clothing assistance, and help with food stamps and utilities.

3
Community Connection:

We serve as a bridge, helping people re-enter jobs and find stable living situations.
